The Glen Manor House

The Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was built in 1920 by John Russell Pope after plans of a french castle (we don't know which one). It is situated on the shore of Sakonnet River with a view of Tiverton and Little Compton on the other side. We liked it mostly because of the waterfront location, the stone terrace and the baroque interior.

The building is not air conditioned, which can easily be a problem at this time of the year. We will dress lightly and hope for a cool evening breeze from the water.

The Glen Manor House is only a 15 minute drive north of Newport, Rhode Island, which is best known for its mansions and the annual jazz festival.
